Up for auction is an uncertified 1871-S Liberty Head United States $2.5 Gold Piece or Quarter Eagle , minted in San Francisco , California.  This piece has deep gold toning throughout and decent luster.  There is only slight wear on the highest points and it’s a great gold coin from the San Francisco mint.   Much of the original mint finish is present , especially around the lettering , as can be seen in the photos.   I would say it grades AU50-55 (about uncirculated 50-55),   This is one of the rarer mints and 1871 is one of the scarcer dates of San Francisco gold with a mintage of only 22,000.   NGC and PCGS have graded only just under 300 combined.  It’s perfect for anyone collecting gold , coins , or historical items in general , plus you get about 3.76 grams of pure gold , just under 1/8 ounce.  Gold closed Friday October 15th at about $1370 per ounce , so this coin had a bullion value of about $166 at that time , not to mention its immense numismatic value.  While I offer a 7 day return priviledge for any reason , I’ll guarantee this coin’s authenticity forever , since it isn’t certified.  Please , feel free to contact me with any questions.
