India Sovereign 1918-I NGC-MS64 Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated gold coin. A beautiful and original example of this 1-year type. Weighs 7.9881 grams of .917 fine gold. According to the Krause coin catalog, “the fifth branch of the Royal Mint was established in a section of Mumbai (Bombay) Mint as of December 21, 1917. This was a war-time measure, its purposed being to strike into sovereigns the gold blanks supplied by the Mumbai and other Indian mints.” The sovereigns “were struck from August 15, 1918 to April 22, 1918.
