1989 Gold Sovereign Gold Proof Coin Set
This auction is for a set of four gold coins. These are genuine British sovereigns minted at the Royal Mint in the United Kingdom. These were struck to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the first gold sovereign coin in 1489. This set consists of the half-sovereign, sovereign, double-sovereign, and five-pound coin. Each proof coin features a new obverse and reverse design, which are modern adaptations of the original sovereign design of 1489. The reverse is a Sheild of the Royal Arms ensigned by and open Royal Crown, the whole superimposed upon a double rose and the circumscription “Anniversary of the Gold Sovereign 1489-1989″ The obverse shows H.M. Queen Elizabeth II seated as at her coronation, within the circumscription “Elizabeth II Dei Gra Reg Fid Def”, which can be translated as “Elizabeth II – by the grace of God, Queen, defender of the faith”. Only 5,000 of these four coin sets were struck. This set comed with protective plastic cases, beautiful display box, and Certificate of Authenticity stating this is number 1,052 of 5,000. This set contains 2 troy ounces of pure gold. This is truly a must have for any coin or bullion collector. It would even make a great gift for that special person in your life!
