THIS IS A FINE EXAMPLE OF A 1903 BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED US QUARTER EAGLE GOLD COIN. I HAVE HAD THIS COIN IN MY COLLECTION FOR OVER 55 YEARS. I bought this coin as “Brilliant Uncirculated” back in the 1950s. In those days I tried to purchase the best quality coins available at the time. Back then the best was “brilliant uncirculated”. As you know since then (in about the late 1970s) things in the coin market and especially the grading of coins changed drastically because coins were being bought up by investors for their pension plans (no longer permitted). Thus 10 grades of uncirculated popped up really (as far as I was concerned as a collector-not an investor) damaging the collector market. The grading system however stayed, enriching the dealers and the grading companies as well as those selling high powered electron microscopes under which you can see every microbial hairline (smile). These coin graders are now ripping off the public especially on the newer government issued coins. My pictures are not the best but this is a very nice coin.
The 1903 Quarter Eagle Gold Coin is so named because it is 1/4 the value of the Gold Eagle or $2.50 when it was originally struck. These coins have held their value well through out the years, increasing dramatically over the last few months as the value of gold continues to rise just about each day of the week. In fact, the value of this coin has risen more than 20% in just the last year or so alone! As the stock market continues to drop, historically speaking, the value of gold, silver and platinum continue to rise. As there appears to be no end to the current market drop, one can surmise that gold – and this coin – will rise exponentially over the next several years.
This beautiful very collectible high grade specimen weighs in an approximately 4.1796 grams of 0.900 fine gold. The coin measures about 18mm in diameter and is in pristine condition with NO RESERVE. Be sure to see my other auctions for more coins like this.
