$10 U.S. Liberty Head Eagle Coin. These coins were minted from 1838 to 1907. The first gold coins issued by the U.S. Mint were the $10 gold.
The face of the coin bears the head of Lady Liberty with her hair tied behind her head. Her coronet bearing the legend, “LIBERTY,” was designed by Christian Gobrecht. It also features 13 stars, representing the 13 original colonies.
The reverse of the coin features a bald eagle with its wings spread and a shield on its chest. The eagle holds an olive branch and arrows in its talons.
