South African Krugerrands have been gaining in popularity and for good reason.

They weigh 1 oz and the value is in its gold weight rather than historic or collectors value. This makes it a very easy way to collect highly portable gold with out having to study the history of coins.

If you are buying purely for the value of gold you need to look for bullion grade coins. The best value is in the 1oz pure krugerrands . Half varities do exist and these are still good just not as good value as the full or 1oz versions. Be wary of  imitation krugerrands. Any date is worth the same with very little extra paid for pristine mint condition pieces – do bear in mind however that this makes them very susceptable to fluctutations in the price of gold.
